Sunyani Police investigate death of three mentally challenged Men

The Sunyani Divisional Police Command has begun investigations into the mysterious death of three mentally challenged men in the early hours of last Saturday.

The people of the Sunyani Municipality and its environs woke up last Saturday morning to witness, to their dismay, three mentally challenged persons killed at separate spots in the municipality.

Their bodies were found in front of a shop at Kotokrom, Newtown Abonsuam and Sunyani Zongo in the municipality.

The three were always seen parading the principal streets, especially at the various roundabouts of the municipality with their polythene bags.

Even though they were mentally challenged persons, they were not harmful to the residents.

Eyewitnesses

Some residents who spoke to the Daily Graphic alleged that certain parts of their bodies, including their tongues, were removed and their bodies lay in pools of blood.

They suspected foul play and believed that the mentally retarded persons were murdered by “Sakawa boys” for ritual purposes.

Those who spoke to the Daily Graphic appealed to the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to intensify its operations to stop such heinous crimes in the municipality.

Divisional Police Commander

The Sunyani Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent Augustine Luguyare, who confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic, said it was an unfortunate incident and the first of its kind in the municipality.

He gave an assurance that the police would beef up security to protect both lives and property in the municipality.

Supt Luguyare said the police had already begun investigations into the matter and called on residents to volunteer information for the arrest of the perpetrators.
